One of the most annoying situations for the owners of a car is to find problems in the body of the car. Just as there are those who are looking for how to restore a car, there are many people who are wondering how to repair car scratches. However, beyond the latter, the fact of finding dents in the bodywork is of particular concern.

While for some a small dent is something that is not important, for others the slightest dent can become something of great concern. Even if you are extremely careful with it, you will not always be able to avoid dents; and if this has occurred, and depending on its size, you should look for how to remove a dent in the car.

Although you can take your car to a garage to have it repaired and then have the car painted, you can choose to do the process yourself.

How to remove a car dent?

Before explaining different ways to know how to remove a dent from a car, you should know that home repair of this type of dent can mean that the final result is not perfect. Damage caused by an accident or deformation of the chassis cannot be fixed without the help of a professional.

Next we are going to give you a series of tricks to repair car dents. However, you must bear in mind that everything will vary depending on where the dent is located and the material from which the body panel, the hood, the bumper… is made. This is because, for example, aluminum has poor memory properties; and in them the removal of dents without paint will be more complicated.

Use a plunger

Plungers can not only be used to unclog pipes and drains, but can also be used to remove small to medium sized dents. To remove dents with this method, you must use a cup or flat plunger, common for unclogging sinks.

To remove a dent, you just have to pour a little water on it and on the rubber suction cup of the plunger. With all your strength you will have to pull at various angles until the dent comes out; and so it should be, especially in the event that the dent is large.

Hit the dent until it snaps back into place

When a dent occurs in the car, not only will the metal sink, but the edges of the dent will also rise. Although it may seem strange to you, use a mallet to knock the dent out, thus being able to fix the sheet metal of the car.

This will work for medium to large sized dents. If it’s a smaller dent, a hammer can help you with this method. In any case, it will only work if you can easily access the dent from behind.

Also, you must be aware that you will have to hit with the hammer or mallet from the inside using a cloth on the dent, thus avoiding damaging the interior of the structure. Also, avoid hitting too fast or too hard. It is about giving small blows on the edge to the center of the dent, until it can recover its shape.

use boiling water

Boiling water can also be used to remove unwanted dents on the vehicle. It will work when you have plastic bumpers and you can access the dent from the back.

As it can be difficult to remove the dent, you can solve the problem by preparing some water in a pot and pouring the boiling water over the dent.

As soon as you have put it in you will have to put your hand through the back of the bumper and try to extract the dent from the inside before it cools down. Thanks to the heat of the water, the plastic will be more flexible, and it will be easier to put it back in place. Therefore, you will have to do the job quickly to be able to deal with the dent.

Use hot glue, wooden plugs and screws

Among the methods that you can resort to to fix a dent on the car by yourself is this one, which will safely allow us to try to remove larger dents.

To do this, use the hot glue or hot melt method.

It is a safe method that does not cause damage to the car’s paint. Along with the hot glue gun you will need some wooden blocks and a few screws.

To carry it out you will have to nail two screws on each side of the plugs, which you will use as a handle. Then apply hot glue to its bottom. Once this is done, you will have to place the plugs by putting the glue on the down side in the areas surrounding the dent and in different places of it.

You should continue adding as many studs as needed to cover the area. You have to let them dry and pull each one of them until the dent disappears or part of it comes out. To carry out this procedure you will need to have glue and patience. Remains of hot glue left on the vehicle can be easily removed with alcohol or heat.
